Ecommerce That Converts and Ships
We build storefronts that load fast on a 4G phone in a tier-3 city, checkouts that don't lose the cart on the third tap, and an order pipeline that actually talks to your warehouse, your courier, and your accountant. Shopify when it fits, headless when it doesn't, custom when both would be a compromise. No abandoned carts because the page-weight is 8MB.
You don't need a prettier theme.
You need a store that converts.
Most ecommerce projects die in the same three places: a homepage that takes 8 seconds to load on a real phone, a checkout that asks for the same information twice, and a backend that has no idea where the order is once it leaves the cart. We build for the messy reality of selling online: courier APIs that flake, payment gateways that fail mid-checkout, inventory that desyncs, and the marketing team that wants a new landing page by Friday.
The store that loads in 8 seconds
Hero video on the homepage, 4MB of unoptimized images, 12 third-party scripts, and a Lighthouse score of 19. Half your traffic bounces before they see a product. The other half can't check out on mobile.
The checkout that loses the cart
Six-step checkout, no guest mode, mandatory account creation, address fields that won't accept Indian PIN codes, and a "place order" button that silently fails on Safari. The conversion rate explains itself.
The order that vanishes after payment
Payment captured. Inventory not decremented. Courier never notified. Customer emails support three days later asking where their order is. The team checks five different dashboards and nobody knows.
What You Actually Get
No vague deliverables. Here's exactly what lands in your hands.
A storefront that loads in under 2 seconds
Real Lighthouse scores, real Web Vitals, tested on a mid-range Android over 4G. Image CDN, lazy loading, code splitting, edge caching — done by engineers who know what TTFB means.
A checkout that actually closes
One-page checkout, guest mode, address autocomplete, COD where it matters, UPI / cards / wallets / BNPL, error recovery, abandoned cart email. Tested on real phones with real fingers.
An order pipeline you can trust
Order → payment → inventory → warehouse → courier → tracking → returns. One source of truth, webhook-driven, with a dashboard that shows where every order is in the flow.
Integrations that don't break silently
ERP, accounting (Tally / Zoho / QuickBooks), shipping (Shiprocket / Delhivery / EasyPost), tax, GST, marketplaces (Amazon, Flipkart). Wired with retries, dead-letter queues, and alerts when something flakes.
A Real Ecommerce Engineering Team
Shipping a store that converts takes more than a theme tweaker. Six roles you get on every Pillai Infotech ecommerce build.
Ecommerce Architect
Picks Shopify vs headless vs custom, designs the catalog model, the variant logic, the pricing rules, and the order state machine. The decisions that determine whether year two is a maintenance project or a rewrite.
Performance Engineer
Owns the Web Vitals budget. Image pipeline, CDN, caching strategy, third-party script audit, font loading, render-blocking removal. Refuses to ship when LCP is over 2.5s.
Conversion-Minded Frontend
Builds product pages, PLPs, and checkout flows that actually convert. Knows the difference between a designer's mockup and a 4-fingered thumb on a 5-inch screen on a moving train.
Payments & Fraud Lead
Wires up Razorpay, Stripe, Cashfree, PayU, PayPal — whichever your geography needs. Knows 3DS flows, recurring billing, refund edge cases, chargeback handling, and how to read a fraud signal.
Order & Fulfillment Engineer
Designs the order state machine, the inventory sync, the courier integrations, and the returns flow. The person who knows that "split shipment" is a category, not a corner case.
Security & Compliance Lead
PCI scope, GDPR, DPDP, GST, e-invoicing. Locks down the admin, sets up rate limits, audits the third-party scripts, and writes the data retention policy your legal team needs.
You See Everything. In Real Time.
Every Pillai Infotech project comes with a dedicated client dashboard. Kanban boards, live logs, test results, meeting notes — it's all visible the moment it happens. No status-report theatre, no "we'll get back to you", no surprises at the demo. You work with us like you work with your own team.
Kanban Board, Live
Every epic, every story, every task — visible on your dashboard. Drag, comment, reprioritize. It's the same board our team works from.
Documented Everything
Every decision, spec, API contract, and architecture diagram lives in the dashboard. Searchable, versioned, linked to the tasks they shaped.
Live Logs & Test Results
Build logs, deployment logs, test suite results — streamed to your dashboard the moment they run. You never have to ask "did the build pass?"
Meetings → Tasks, Automatically
Every meeting is recorded, transcribed, and every action point is auto-converted into a tracked task assigned to the right person. Nothing gets lost between calls.
Sprint Burndown & Velocity
See exactly how much work is done, how much remains, and our velocity over time. If a sprint is slipping, you see it the same moment we do.
Comment, Approve, Decide — In-Place
Comment on any task, approve designs, sign off on specs, and raise blockers directly in the dashboard. Everything tied to the work, not buried in email threads.
Ecommerce Stores We Know How to Ship
We pick the platform to match the catalog and the buyer, not because of a partner badge.
🛍️ D2C brand stores
Single-brand storefronts with a sharp identity, fast PDPs, subscription support, loyalty, and a checkout that converts on mobile. Shopify or headless Shopify depending on scale.
🏬 Multi-brand marketplaces
Multi-vendor catalogs with seller onboarding, commission rules, payouts, dispute flows, and a commission ledger your CFO can audit. Custom or Magento Open Source depending on the scale.
🌍 Cross-border & multi-region stores
Multi-currency, multi-language, geo-pricing, regional payment methods, regional couriers, regional tax. One catalog, multiple storefronts, no schema drift.
🛒 B2B & wholesale ecommerce
Per-customer pricing, quote-to-order, NET-30 invoices, bulk reorder, approval flows, and the kind of admin tools that replace the spreadsheet your sales team has been using for ten years.
🍱 Quick-commerce & hyperlocal
Real-time inventory by store, geo-fenced delivery, time slots, dispatch logic, and live order tracking. The hard parts: warehouse-aware availability and live courier integration.
📺 Headless commerce on a custom front
Shopify or commercetools as the engine, Next.js or Nuxt on the front. For brands that need editorial freedom, content + commerce, and a Lighthouse score above 90.
The Ecommerce Stack We Use
Boring, proven, and chosen because it ships orders, not because the agency has a badge.

Ops & Integrations
A Six-Stage Ecommerce Delivery Process
Built around the reality that the launch is the easy part — month two is where most stores break.
Discovery & Catalog Audit
How many SKUs, how many variants, how complex is the pricing, what are the integrations, where do the orders go after checkout. We pick the platform in week one, with trade-offs in writing.
Conversion-First Design
Wireframes for the PDP, PLP, cart, and checkout — designed for thumb reach, mobile networks, and a buyer with 12 seconds of attention. Tested on real phones before a single line of code.
Build in Vertical Slices
Catalog → PDP → cart → checkout → order → fulfillment, end-to-end, every two weeks. Real payments, real inventory, real shipping in staging from week four.
Performance & QA Gauntlet
Web Vitals budget enforced. Real device testing. Load testing for the Black Friday case. Cross-browser, cross-network, cross-payment-method. No regressions ship.
Launch & Migration
SEO redirects, historical orders migrated, customer accounts ported, DNS cutover with a rollback path, and a war-room on launch day. Zero-downtime cutover, not "we're back up after lunch".
Conversion Optimization
Weekly review of funnel drop-off, abandoned carts, page speed, search relevance. A/B tests on the highest-traffic templates. The store gets faster and converts better every month.

Honest Answers to Ecommerce Reality Questions
The questions every smart buyer asks before signing. Here's what we tell them.
Shopify, Magento, WooCommerce, or custom?
Shopify if you want to ship fast, your catalog is normal, and you can live with the platform constraints. Shopify Plus when you outgrow it. Magento Open Source for complex B2B and multi-store. WooCommerce only if WordPress is non-negotiable. Custom only when none of the above fit — and we'll tell you when that's actually the case, which is rarely.
Headless or theme-based?
Theme-based wins for most D2C brands under ₹10 cr GMV — faster to ship, cheaper to maintain, easier to hire for. Headless wins when you need editorial freedom, content + commerce, custom flows that fight the platform, or a Lighthouse score above 90. We'll benchmark both for your case.
How fast can you actually make our store?
LCP under 2 seconds on a mid-range Android over 4G is achievable on every platform we work with — yes, even Magento. The work is in the image pipeline, the third-party scripts, the font loading, and the render path. Most stores have 60% of their performance budget burned on tags nobody uses.
Can you migrate from Magento 1 / OpenCart / WooCommerce?
Yes. Catalog, customers, orders, URLs, and SEO redirects. We do a dry-run migration in staging, you validate against your live data, then we cut over with a rollback plan. Zero-downtime cutover for stores doing serious GMV.
How do you handle inventory across multiple warehouses or marketplaces?
A single source of truth (the OMS or the platform itself), with webhook-driven sync to each channel. We design the conflict resolution policy up front — last-write-wins, master-channel-priority, or reservation-based. Not invented during the first oversell incident.
Cash on Delivery? UPI? International cards?
All of it. COD with verification (OTP, address scoring, fraud filters) so you don't lose money to fake orders. UPI as the primary method for India. International cards with 3DS, multi-currency, and the right MCC. We'll match the payment mix to your geography.
How do you handle Black Friday / mega-sale traffic?
Load test against 10x your peak, weeks before. CDN tuned, cache warmed, queues sized, database connection pools verified, and a war-room runbook. We've held 100% uptime for stores running Diwali and Black Friday sales — it's not luck, it's preparation.
Will we own the code and the data?
Yes. Code in your GitHub org, store admin in your name, payment gateway accounts in your company name. Data exports on demand. If we walked away tomorrow, your next agency could ship updates on Monday.
What about GST, e-invoicing, and accounting integration?
GST-aware tax calculation, HSN codes per SKU, e-invoicing for B2B orders above the threshold, and webhook-driven sync to Tally / Zoho / QuickBooks. The unsexy stuff that determines whether your accountant likes you.
Can you sign an NDA before we share details?
Always. NDA before the first call. Source, designs, and analytics access stay under your control.
